A Place of Her Own
The artwork in this exhibition responds to this question, “If you had a place of your own, what would it be?”
My place would be a library and archive, the Library of my Imagination. For this show I created a new artist book, Tule Lake Pilgrimage to display on the top shelf of my portable library cabinet. The book reflects on my recent pilgrimage to the site of the American concentration camp in northern California where my family and thousands of other Japanese Americans were imprisoned during WWII.
J-Sei , 1285 66th St., Emeryville, CA

I am honored to have my art included in this stellar historical survey exhibition about AAWAA and its artist members. The exhibition considers the question, “What is an Asian American woman artist?” through the frameworks of kinship, mentorship, intergenerational friendship, and community-building between artist members.

Reflections
In the Signature Gallery, a solo show of many of my recent works.
Reception: Fri, October 13, 2023, 6pm - 8pm
I created most of the artwork in Reflections within the past 2 years, after much reflection on a range of topics: the loss and resilience of my family and other Japanese Americans who were incarcerated during World War II, my interpretations of the four seasons, and the beauty of elements in the natural world. While these sound like very different themes, collectively the works relate to one another and share a common intention to spur reflection and wonder.
Gallery hours: Fri - Sun, 11am - 5pm

Sansei Granddaughters' Journey: From Remembrance to Resistance
Art Exhibition and Educational Programming on the Japanese American Incarceration
Reception: Sat, July 30, 2022, 12:30pm - 3pm
The exhibition features the work of five third generation (sansei) Japanese American artists Shari Arai DeBoer, Ellen Bepp, Reiko Fujii, Kathy Fujii-Oka, and Na Omi Judy Shintani.
In 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, which unjustly ordered the forcible removal of Japanese Americans from their homes and incarceration in American concentration camps. As descendants of those incarcerated, the five artists share a unique vision that, through art, brings to life the injustices of this history, its legacy and its relevance to current issues.
