Sansei Granddaughters’ Journey

- A documentary short film

The film shares the journey I took with four other sansei (3rd generation Japanese American) artists, Ellen Bepp, Reiko Fujii, Kathy Fujii-Oka, Na Omi Judy Shintani and videographer Pat Mayo to attend the 49th Annual Manzanar Pilgrimage.  What began for me as a road trip to learn and experience the Pilgrimage for the first time, evolved into a rich spiritual journey for all of us.

As artists and descendants of those who were unjustly imprisoned during World War II, we share our families’ stories in the context of historical and current events and how these stories are woven into each of our art practices.

The film was selected for the 2020 Silicon Valley Asian Pacific FilmFest, the 2021 DisOrient Asian American Film Festival of Oregon and in 2022 the 11th Annual Films of Remembrance.
